Lent is a season we are all familiar with. Most people decide to stop doing something in honor of Lent. For the past 3 years a group of Christians in the Heights community have decided to start doing something instead. They get together every Tuesday on their lunch breaks and go on a “Prayer Walk” through the neighborhood. In the past, these walks have brought people together for fellowship and community all while enjoying the start of our beautiful spring weather.
The Prayer Walk will begin February 19th and will be held every Tuesday from 12-12:45 pm.
The woman behind this wonderful event is Mrs. Linda Burgess. Mrs. Burgess is a long time member at Highland Heights United Methodist Church and the Heights community holds a special place in her heart. She moved into the neighborhood with here husband Wayne right after they were married which will be 40 years ago this year.
In the past, Highland Heights United Methodist, Highland Heights Baptist and New Tyler AME have all participated and this year the organizers are looking to add more churches to the event. Each week a different church pastor will lead the walk and every week they take a different route. By the time Lent is over they will have covered almost the entire community.
If you think your church would like to host a Prayer Walk or if you would like to join your neighbors in fellowship email Linda and Wayne. You can also check our calendar to find out where the group will meet every Tuesday.
